Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)

Ontario is Canada’s most populous province, so much so that 40% of the country’s population can be found here. Canada’s capital, Ottawa, and the country’s largest city, Toronto, are both located in Ontario. Many consider Ontario the political, social and economic hub of the country.

The PNP in Ontario is known as the OINP or the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program. The following categories come under this program:

  • Human Capital Category
  • Employer Job Offer Category
  • Business Category

Human Capital Category

There are five streams under this which are divided into two categories – International Graduates and Ontario Express Entry.

International Graduates Stream

There are two graduate streams that are aimed at those who have recently got a doctorate or master’s degree from an eligible Ontario educational institution.

PhD Graduate Stream

People who have earned a doctorate recently from an eligible Ontario educational institution can apply under this stream. They do not need to have a job offer.

Masters Graduate Stream

People who have earned a masters recently from an eligible Ontario educational institution can apply under this stream. They do not need to have a job offer.

Ontario’s Express Entry Streams

These streams work with the federal government’s Express Entry program. In order to apply for these streams, candidates have to have an active Express Entry profile and an invite to apply for a provincial nomination.

Ontario Express Entry: Human Capital Priorities Stream

This stream allows OINP to nominate skilled workers with the necessary education, language skills, and work experience among other requirements from the Express Entry database in order to integrate them into the province’s labour pool. It also does ‘tech draws’ from the Express Entry database for skilled workers from six tech fields.

Ontario Express Entry: French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream

This stream allows OINP to nominate French-speaking skilled workers with the necessary education, good English language skills, and significant work experience in their skill field among other requirements from the Express Entry database in order to integrate them into the province’s labour pool.

Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream

This stream is aimed at tradespeople who have current or recent work experience in the trades in Ontario.

Employer Job Offer Category

There are two streams under this category:

  • Foreign Worker
  • International Student

Using these streams, this category enables employers in Ontario to nominate international students and/or foreign workers to get a qualifying employment offer in the province. The nominees may be in residence in the country or outside when they apply.

International Student Stream

Under this stream, international students get help obtaining qualifying employment offers so that they can settle in the province and work.

Foreign Worker Stream

Under this stream, foreign workers get help obtaining qualifying employment offers in skilled jobs so that they can settle in the province and work.

In-Demand Skills Stream

Under this stream, foreign workers in or outside the country get help obtaining qualifying employment offers in certain in-demand fields such as construction or agriculture so that they can settle in the province and work.

Under this stream, foreign workers in or outside the country get help obtaining qualifying employment offers in certain in-demand fields such as construction or agriculture so that they can settle in the province and work.

Business Category

Entrepreneur Stream

This stream aims at people who are interested in starting a new enterprise or purchasing an existing one in the province. Based on an agreement about the enterprise’s performance, applicants who have been approved get a temporary work permit support letter to set up the enterprise in the province. If the agreement is adhered to and the parameters are met, the applicants will get the chance to be nominated for permanent residence.
